A leader in reading instruction since 1971, the Institute helps educational organizations provide reading skills programs to the communities they serve. For more information, visit www.readingprograms.org.
Each lesson includes phonics instruction and games, independent reading practice, comprehension-building discussions and reading enrichment activities. Parents attend the first half of each class to learn how to support their child's reading development at home. The teacher will individually assess your child and provide you with guidance for selecting books at the right level for your child throughout first grade.
For more detailed information, view the Program Overview section of the Program Guide.
Students reinforce what they have learned in class during four sessions of home practice. This practice consists of independent reading with assistance from parents, and playing two skills games, Phonics Power and Sight Word Blast Off! The practice is well structured and enjoyable, with easy-to-follow instructions.
